Gymnastics is one of the most fundamental and exciting of all physical activities. Basic gymnastics can help develop skills that are perfect for other sports and activities, such as: flexibility, strength, balance & agility. Your child will learn easy movements and progress to more complex skills as they develop a sense of accomplishment and confidence in their abilities.
Coach Jenn DeForge is returning to the YMCA as coach of Gymnastics. She has a strong passion for gymnastics and it comes across in her dedication and creativity when working with the children of our community.
Parents are asked to wait outside the activity room during the class. If your child is having a hard time, you are more than welcome to stay until they feel comfortable.
Classes are Monday nights – Summer 3 Aug 26-Sept 23 (no class Sept 2nd) (4 weeks)
Tiny Tumblers – Ages 3 & 4 – 5:30pm
An introduction into Gymnastics children will learn the correct way to stop and “stick-it”. They begin to learn cartwheels, handstands, forward rolls and straddle rolls. They are introduced to the idea of going upside down while “supporting” their own weight. They begin to learn balance while working on the balance beam.
Tumbling Tigers – Ages 5-18 – 6pm
This is a class designed for beginners. Students learn the proper techniques for cartwheels, handstands, forward rolls and straddle rolls. They are introduced to round-offs, bridge-kick overs, front limbers and handstand forward rolls. The children learn to walk on a balance bean in a variety of ways and will be introduced to a forward roll on the beam.
Flipping Frogs – Ages 5-18 – 6:45pm
This class is designed for an advanced beginner. The students should enter this class knowing how to do a cartwheel, handstand and forward roll. This class will work on bridge-kick overs, front limbers and handstand forward rolls. The students will begin to work on cartwheels and handstands on the balance beam.
