Support Groups

Livestrong at the YMCA

Medical studies have shown that moderate levels of appropriate physical activity can reduce fatigue, boost self-esteem and improve muscle strength and physical endurance in individuals following cancer treatment. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA has helped thousands of Cancer survivors move beyond cancer in spirit, mind and body. This program is offered without cost to participants and includes a free 3-month YMCA membership. The YMCA provides trained instructors, the facility and equipment.

Friends and Care Givers of Dementia Support Group
Second Wednesday of the month at 1:00pm.
Caregivers often find the task of caring for loved ones with dementia to be overwhelming. They often develop stress related illnesses such as heart disease, hypertension and ulcers. An occasional break from care and some time with other individuals who are sharing a similar experience enables the exhausted caregiver the opportunity to regroup both physically and emotionally and find the support to carry on. Join the caregivers support group. Partially underwritten by the WCAAA and CT Community Foundation.

Elf Project
The United Way of Naugatuck and Beacon Falls and the Naugatuck YMCA join together each holiday season to assist families in need with “Elf Project” (the people behind the scenes that make the magic happen.).
An Elf Sponsor adopts a family who otherwise would be unable to provide for their family’s simple basic gifts or the extras we all take for granted, for the holiday season. In the past Elf Sponsors have given winter coats, age appropriate games for the children, and gift cards to grocery stores.
The families we work with do not receive holiday assistance from other sources. If you and your company would like to participate please contact either:
Lisa Shappy from the United Way or Cathie Mauritz from the YMCA (203) 729-9622 Ext. 27
